What do Doris from the florist and Mick the mechanic place have in common?

Posted by & filed under .

They have elbow pain in common. Why? Because they ‘potter’ & ‘fiddle’ all day long!

Have you ever had elbow pain (and you don’t have to be a florist or mechanic!) then read on! If not, remember this article if you do….!

You may have heard of golfers elbow & tennis elbow? These two things are the curse of anyone who works with their hands (so basically it could be anyone!) and the cause of a lot of peoples elbow pain.

It is a tendinitis (an inflammation of the tendon) of where a lot of the wrist and hand extensor muscles (tennis elbow) and a number of the wrist and hand flexor muscles (golfers elbow) insert into the elbow area.

So, how to fix it? Firstly you need to see a sports rehabilitator or physiotherapist to 100% confirm the diagnosis (and we at Fitwoxs are pretty good at these sorts of things if we do say so ourselves!) and then initially it will be a case of helping with the pain. You can apply ice to the area, take anti-inflammatories (on the advice of a doctor), can receive ultrasound and manual treatment (massage) to help pain relief also. Then we can go about figuring out why the pain started in the first place. We assess, then strengthen and mobilise those tight and inflexible areas, then strengthen and balance out any areas of weak or unbalanced muscles and/or fascia.
